Lesson 4: The “Mental 5” Critical Thinking Skills

REFERENCE

The “Mental 5” Critical Thinking Skills (See CourseWare)

INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

The Law of Correspondence teaches that our external perception is a direct reflection of internal perception. In other words, our reality of the world is a result of our inner most dominant thought. If our life is filled with unhappiness, chaos, or is just unfulfilling, we will have a similar outlook on the world around us. All human performance improvement strategies begin with changing the individual’s perception or mental images.

Today we understand the need to isolate thoughts from emotions. Isolating each helps us better understand the unique difference between the two, as well as how they directly impact critical thinking and decision making. Top performers develop the mental strength to regulate disruptive thoughts and distracting emotions. As with every skill, mental skills can be developed with practice.
